Open Question: When Will Digital Books Overtake Print Books?

1. Do you believe digital books will supplant printed books?
2. If no, why? If yes, when will it happen?

I heard from one of my feeds, sorry, can't find which one it was now, that the estimate was only 1% of the market by 2010.

This seems a bit slow to me, and statistics are fraught with inconsistency.

Supplant perhaps isn't the right word. Some books will always be desirable in paper. Many many others will not.

Genre fiction, text books, comics, ARCs...

I read extensively on my iPhone and laptop. My fourteen-year-old son, however, reads almost exclusively in digital formats. The books he wants to read for pleasure are online at deviantart.com or fanfiction.com. A book, for him, is not an artifact, it's just a medium, and rather unhandy at that.
