Tools of Change for Publishing

Connect with Publishing Innovation

We all need our security systems, and mine has turned into freelance writing jobs for social networks and blogs. When I lost my job, I needed some income to pay for my medical and dental insurance COBRA payments. I found work by blogging for a few sites as a ghost writer. That probably saved me, providing just enough income to get through a rough time. I think social networks are awesome.

Thanks Pat, that's very helpful background. I wonder if there's a risk in outsourcing something that's becoming so important -- in other words, I wonder how many of these companies are trying to learn from your expertise to develop that knowledge internally vs. just treating this as another non-core business function to outsource.

Part of the ghost writing agreement is that I can't reveal who I write for, but I have done it for more than a dozen technology related blogs. Most are very industry specific so you probably have not run into mine, unless you are a knowledge management database guru. The practice is widespread in many industries.

On whose behalf have you been ghostwriting? I'm curious about the types of content, and whether the readers of that content would think differently about it if they knew it was ghostwritten (a spooky topic apropos for Halloween week...).
